Intel will introduce 6-core processors in a few months

Last year we announced that Intel is going to release 6- and 8-core processors codenamed Dunnington. Dunnington is, in fact, three 2-core Penryn in one package. In this case, the volume of the L2 cache will be 3×3 MB, and the total L3 cache will be 16 MB.

Intel will introduce Dunnington before Nehalem is released, according to the source – in the third or even the second quarter of this year. Perhaps Dunnington will become just a backup option for Intel, in case the release of the first Nehalem processors is delayed. The lineup of these processors will include devices with different operating frequencies and TDP from 60 to 130 W.

In light of Intel’s promotion of the Skulltrail platform for enthusiasts, we can expect that with the release of Dunnington, in addition to 24-core servers, 12-core work (game) stations will appear.
