Microsoft Denies Blu-ray Switch Rumors

Recent reports that Microsoft plans to integrate a Blu-ray drive into the Xbox 360 game console have not been confirmed. Recall that it was based on information about the relevant negotiations that allegedly took place between Sony and Microsoft. Xbox 360 executive Aaron Greenberg dispelled rumors by saying Microsoft is not in talks with Sony or plans to add Blu-ray support to the game console.

“Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or Blu-ray Association regarding Blu-ray integration,” Greenberg told Reuters. Microsoft has stopped supplying HD DVD drives for Xbox 360, and focuses on online services that provide downloads of videos, including high definition.

So, leaving HD DVD doesn’t mean Blu-ray will automatically take its place. Looks like Sony has yet to compete for the new format’s place under the sun.
