Details keyboard stand is almost entirely made from recycled materials
Details, a Steelcase subsidiary, is the first in the industry to be awarded Cradle-to-Cradle certification by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). Consulting company MBDC is promoting the Next Industrial Revolution initiative to develop environmentally friendly products and services.
What is behind the designation “Cradle-to-Cradle”?
Most products manufactured today, as in the early days of the industrial revolution, have a birth-to-death cycle – in other words, the product is used until the end of its useful life and then disposed of. Instead, MBDC promotes a birth-to-birth concept of product reuse instead of recycling.
As for the keyboard stand, designed by Details engineers, all of its components – mechanism, body and palm rest – are made from recycled materials. After the product has served its life, it can be recycled again. Thus, according to the manufacturer, a practically closed cycle is ensured, with a minimum inflow of new materials and a minimum amount of materials that are not reused. So, the mechanism uses steel 98% re-melted, the “platform” for the keyboard is 100% made of kraft paper, and the palm rest is made of urethane of water origin – a material that provides for 100% reuse.
