10 TB magnetic and 500 GB optical – Hitachi plans unveiled at nano tech 2021
At the nano tech event 2021,
dedicated to advanced developments in the field of nanotechnology and the past in the period
from 13 to 15 February in Japan, the company
Hitachi told about some of its developments in the near future.
Nanogranular magnetic tape
The source reports that Hitachi, together with the institute
Tokyo Institute is developing Nanoguranyura magnetic tape, which will
have a very high storage density. This is planned
achieve through the use of small magnetic
particles with high coercivity (as a rule, carriers with such a magnetic
material are more expensive), which will be applied to
plastic heat-sensitive film by spraying
very thin layer. In this case, the smallest particle of the carrier must have dimensions
about 10 nm. A similar tape will be used in Volume cartridges
1, the capacity of which will be about 10 TB.
Concerning the future of optical discs,
then Hitachi plans to bring the capacity of optical media to
ten times the capacity of today’s dual-layer discs
