Hitachi-Maxell launched their HD DVD-RW, HD DVD-R DL discs
Hitachi and Maxell will soon release their first media, which
have HD DVD-R / RW standard and can record at 2x. It must
happen towards the end of this month according to the source. At the same time
Mitsubishi Chemical Media has gone further in this direction and has already announced
similar products – HD DVD-R DL discs.
Hitachi-Maxell’s HD DVD-R and HD DVD-RW products arrive in
sale in Japan at the end of February, these will be discs for recording
video and data recording.
The 15GB HD DVD-R version will have a track spacing of 0.40 microns.
These new discs will support recording technology
LTH (Low to High).
HD DVD-RW discs are based on BCM-HD (Bismuth Coupling Material),
which, reportedly, will allow for faster and better
recording. The same manufacturing technology was used to create discs
DVD-RAM standard back in 2021.
It seems that despite the “wars” of formats for HD-video
Japanese optical disc manufacturers are willing to support both
Blu-ray and HD DVD.
