DRS Technologies ARMOR C12: armored convertible laptop

DRS Tactical Systems, a division of DRS Technologies, has announced a new line of ruggedized mobile computers. One of the new products is the ARMOR C12 convertible laptop.

The main feature of the ARMOR C12, which is reflected in the name (armor means “armor”) is a high degree of protection from external influences. In addition, the convertible laptop is equipped with a screen that can be easily read even in bright sunlight, wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) network connections. ARMOR mobile computers meet the requirements of the MIL-STD-810F specification, which summarizes the criteria for the suitability of equipment for use in military units. State structures and industrial enterprises are named among potential customers of the product.

The “armored” transformer uses the Intel mobile platform. Together with the batteries, the device weighs approximately two and a half kilograms. The “stuffing” of ARMOR C12 is enclosed in a die-cast magnesium alloy case, which helps the computer successfully withstand drops, vibration and shock, dust and splashes (IP 54 rating), high temperatures and humidity.

The device is equipped with a 12.1-inch touch screen, a PCMCIA Type II slot, a backlit keyboard designed for use in the dark. An interesting feature is the presence of a means of destruction of information recorded on the hard drive. An optional fingerprint sensor is installed.
