Qimonda talks DRAM breakthrough – road to 30nm standards open
Qimonda AG has published its “roadmap” – a timetable for the development of technologies and the release of new products. It includes the development of serial production at 30 nm. The corresponding memory components will have a cell size of 4F?. The key to the new products is Qimonda Buried Wordline DRAM technology, which provides high performance, low power consumption and miniature chip sizes. Currently, Qimonda is implementing this technology in a 65nm process, hoping to launch 1Gb DDR2 chips in the second half of the year.
“We are the first in the industry to publish a roadmap for DRAM up to 30nm generation,” said Kin Wah Loh, President and CEO.
Qimonda expects to start serial production of 46nm Buried Wordline DRAM technology in the second half of 2021. Moving to 46nm will more than double storage density over conventional 58nm technology. The company intends to invest approximately 100 million.euros of own funds during 2021 and 2021 to transfer the existing capacity to Buried Wordline technology.
