Duke University To Deploy World’s Largest 802 Network.11n

Duke University Announces Intent to Provide 802.11 Wireless Coverage.11n in all of its buildings and on campus. More than 2,500 access points will be required to implement this ambitious project. The network to be created as a result of the project is said to be the world’s largest 802.11n.

The total coverage area is approximately 540,000 sq.m. It includes all classrooms, libraries, dormitories and other buildings. The services of the network will be available to 45,000 students, professors, teachers and technical workers.

Cisco was selected as the equipment supplier. The project developers opted for Wi-Fi-certified Cisco 802 access points.11n Aironet 1250 Series. During preliminary testing, specialists were able to provide stable communication with the help of these access points in the campus. The bandwidth of the channel was 130 Mbit / s per client.

Significantly, existing 802-enabled clients.11g will be able to work with the Cisco Aironet 1250 Series to achieve almost double the speed of previous generation networks, which clearly demonstrates the benefits of 802.11n.
