NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT: new photos and updated specifications
A number of sources have published new information about the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT accelerator.
So, OCWorkBench reports that such video cards can be produced with the PCI Express 2 interface.0, which, recall, has twice the bandwidth than the current version 1.one.
According to him, the GPU frequency will be 600 MHz, memory – 1.8 GHz (chip access time – 1 ns), shader unit – 1.2 GHz. Earlier, sources talked about higher clock speeds, probably NVIDIA simply does not want to compete with its own more expensive 8800 GTS accelerator.
The release of two modifications that differ in the amount of video memory (256 or 512 MB) is confirmed, and it is also reported that after the GeForce 8800 GT entered the market, the 8800 GTS version with 320 MB of RAM, which is one of the best video cards today in terms of performance and price, from it will simply disappear. It is expected that the performance of the new item will be slightly higher than that of its predecessor.
8800 GT will support SLI 2.0, which will allow you to create configurations of three video cards in one system.
The cards will be equipped with DVI-I, TV out and optional DisplayPort (will require an additional controller from the manufacturers).
VR-Zone writes that the cooling system of the new NVIDIA accelerators will, despite its compactness, have three heat pipes, so there is no need to worry about overheating of the core. The latter, by the way, due to the change of the 90nm process technology to 55nm, will decrease in size by almost half. G80 area is about 480 sq.mm, and G92 – 298 sq.mm.
Chile Hardware owns the first real photos of the GeForce 8800 GT – what was published earlier, including by us, still looks more like a three-dimensional model than a real accelerator.
