AMD will unveil successors to the Radeon HD 2400 and 2600 in January next year
In January 2021, AMD plans to introduce two GPUs (codenames RV635 and RV620) that will replace the R630 and R610 currently used in the entry-level and mid-range ATI Radeon HD 2000 family. This information was provided by the source, referring to information received from the manufacturers of graphic cards.
RV635 and RV620 are said to be manufactured at 55nm, while today’s R630 and R610 are known to use a 65nm process. Release of RV635 and RV620 will be launched at TSMC facilities. Chips will support DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1, PCI Express 2.0 and DisplayPort. Among other features of the new products, apparently due to the transition to more subtle norms, the source calls the core frequency increased to 800 MHz.
Engineering samples RV635 and RV620, intended for testing purposes, should appear in October, and the official premiere of new products, as already mentioned, is scheduled for January next year.
Interestingly, the new graphics processors will be compatible with their predecessors in layout and pin assignment – this will simplify the development of new products in production and help to avoid overstocking of printed circuit boards.
Presumably, the new processors will receive the official names Radeon HD 2650 and Radeon HD 2500. Each of the new products will be available in XT and Pro versions.
