Symmetricom has created the world’s smallest atomic clock

Devices capable of counting time with high accuracy are in great demand. Particularly high accuracy and stability of readings are ensured by atomic clocks. Recall that these devices use the natural vibrations of atoms or molecules as a signal source with a constant periodicity. Having obvious advantages, until recently, atomic clocks had too large dimensions and power consumption, being inferior in these indicators to clocks based on quartz generators, so their field of application was limited.

Specializing in precision clocks and oscillators since 1985, Symmetricom has turned things around with the official introduction of the SA family of rubidium oscillators.3Xm. New items are five times more compact, consume half the energy, and are cheaper than existing counterparts. Manufacturer’s estimate, SA.3Xm represent a radical step forward in atomic clock technology.

By size, SA.3Xm smaller than many high-end crystal oscillators. At the same time, the novelty has the usual arrangement and pin assignment for developers, and a standard projection area, which simplifies the use of SA.3Xm in existing designs.
