Realtek RTU7300 and RTU7105 UWBs Receive WiMedia Certified Platform

Realtek Semiconductor, a company specializing in the design and manufacture of ultra-wideband (UWB) element base, announced that two of its new products – the RTU7300 chip, which performs the functions of the Media Access Controller (MAC), and the RTU7105 (MAC and PHY in one case) received the status of WiMedia Certified Platform.

Thus, Realtek’s UWB developments have demonstrated full compatibility with the WiMedia MAC specifications, which provide flexible formation of personal wireless networks and the coexistence of devices that support different protocols, including Certified Wireless USB, next-generation Bluetooth and IP-over-UWB.

WiMedia Certified Platform is required for all devices implementing the WiMedia MAC specification. It is the second and final stage of WiMedia certification. The first mandatory component certifies product compliance with the WiMedia PHY specification. By the way, two Realtek chips implementing the physical layer interface – RTU7010 and RTU7012, have passed this certification.

WiMedia MAC includes many innovative solutions designed to improve the stability of wireless personal area networks. Among these are the fully distributed nature of the MAC; there is no requirement for central network management, which makes it possible for any two devices to form a network. The MAC layer creates conditions for the coexistence of several concurrent higher layer protocols that can efficiently allocate the wireless media resource. In addition, the discipline of redundancy-based channel allocation has a positive effect on minimizing power consumption, revealing the unique benefits of the physical layer interface at the bottom of the hierarchy.
