Ampro RuffSystem – truly tough single board computer (IP66 / 67)
Reinforced computers are quite often found in the assortment of manufacturers, but, as a rule, we are talking about rather modest indicators of protection against external influences. For example, moisture resistance usually means only the ability to withstand splashes, not the possibility of even short-term immersion in water.
However, from time to time, real “amphibians” appear on the market. A prime example is the single board computer presented by Ampro Computers, which specializes in embedded systems, single board computers and computer modules. At the Embedded Systems Conference, this manufacturer presented the RuffSystem product, built on the basis of the LittleBoard 800 single board computer.
The sealed case of the product simultaneously serves as a heat sink for the Intel Pentium M 738 processor (1.4 GHz) and other system components that generate heat. Product form factor determined by NEMA 4x chassis selection. Case dimensions are 20.3 x 25.4 x 7.6 cm. The device meets the requirements of the MIL-STD-810 standard (resistance to shock and vibration, high humidity and temperature extremes). Optionally, an option is available that meets the ratings IP 66 (highest dustproof class, full protection against the penetration of foreign particles; protection against sea waves or strong water jets, water entering the housing does not interfere with the operation of the device) or IP 67 (even higher level of protection – for short-term immersion, water does not get inside in quantities that interfere with the operation of the device).
The power supply is also protected against external influences and surges in the on-board network (MIL-STD-704E, MIL-STD-1275B, and SAE J1455).
The RuffSystem uses a dedicated ruggedized hard drive, Seagate EE25. Other configuration features include PC / 104-Plus slot, DIMM slot up to 1GB (uses DDR 333 memory), Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100 Ethernet adapters, USB 2 ports.0, serial ports, video and audio output. Available operating systems include Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, and Linux 2.6.
The first samples of the RuffSystem should appear in the fourth quarter. Price has not yet been announced.
