Intel has developed a chipset with simultaneous support for Wi-Fi, WiMAX and DVB-H
According to the source, Intel has already prepared a test sample of the chipset, one chip of which is capable of supporting Wi-Fi and WiMAX wireless protocols (a network of such a standard in Russia will be built with the direct participation of Intel), as well as digital television of the DVB-H standard.
The novelty will provide data transmission using Wi-Fi when the user is within the coverage area of this network, will automatically switch to WiMAX when the user leaves the Wi-Fi coverage area and will provide digital TV signal reception wherever possible.
It uses a 32-bit ARC 605 processor core as a controller, operating at a frequency of 233 MHz and having a maximum power consumption of only 17 mW.
In general, the engineering sample of Intel’s solution is a 24 sq.mm with a maximum power consumption of 79 mW.
The maximum claimed bandwidth of the wireless chipset is 52 Mbps.
Engineering samples will be available in the coming weeks, commercial implementation is not yet discussed.
