Vitesse launches industry’s first single-chip GbE router

Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Equipment Chip Vitesse Semiconductor Announces New G-RocX VSC7501. This is the industry’s first SoC to feature GbE router functionality, according to the manufacturer.

The high degree of integration of the new chip will allow network equipment manufacturers to reduce the number of components used in high-speed products. Another important advantage of the product is low power consumption. Key G-RocX Applications Named Next Generation 802.11 Gateways and Routers.11 VoIP, PON, DOCSIS and xDSL.

According to the company, so far none of the manufacturers of element base for GbE networks has presented a single-chip system with such a degree of integration. The G-RocX VSC7501 includes a 6-port GbE switch, router and physical layer interface designed to receive and transmit data on copper wire lines with a bandwidth of 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps. In addition, the microcircuit contains terminating resistors, PLL circuits, a Hardware Network Address Translation (HNAT) unit, a universal asynchronous transceiver (UART), two USB 2 ports.0 and PCI port.

At the same time, the power consumption of the product does not exceed 3 W. In particular, this makes it possible to simplify the solution of the problem of heat dissipation and makes it possible to use cheaper plastic housings. VSC7501 deliveries have already begun.
