Intel Silverthorne processor will operate at frequencies up to 1.7 GHz

According to the source, the operating frequencies of the expected
Intel processors to be installed in Mobile Internet Devices (MID)
and Ultra Mobile PC. The first information about the 45nm Silverthorne processors was
known and
published by us at the end of April this year. Recall that Silverthorne,
a relative of Penryn and a representative of the LPIA processor line (Low Power Intel
Architecture), will be designed to work in the next generations of UMPC.

More specifically, Silverthorne should be the heart for
Menlow platforms. This CPU will be an important step towards
development of MID, UMPC devices and, possibly, will be the heart for budget
computers shipped to emerging market countries.

As for, in fact, the technical data of the CPU,
now they are known to be more complete: 512KB L2 cache, 45nm
technical process, operating frequencies 1.1-1.7 GHz, TDP 0.55 W (10 times lower than that of UMPC
sample 2021). One of the important features is low
Silverthorne production cost. Placed on one 300 mm substrate
2000 Silverthorne cores (Silverthorne core is four times smaller than Penryn core).

According to Intel itself, the performance of Silverthorne
will be comparable to the first generation Pentium M, which is not so much, but with
considering that he does not have to work with Windows Vista (as an OS, rather
in total, Linux Ubuntu will act), for tasks of mobile terminals and budget
PC will be enough.
