Intel Dunnington and Beckton will have up to 8 cores in one die

The Japanese resource PC Watch writes that next year we are expecting the appearance of 6-core (models with 4 cores will also be available) single-chip Intel processors, codenamed Dunnington, and using the Core architecture.

A year later, 8-core Beckton will appear, using the already new Nehalem architecture. The difference between the current Core, future Penryn and Dunnington / Beckton is described in the diagram below.

In the latter, all 6 or 8 cores will be placed in one crystal, they will use a single third-level cache of up to 16 and 24 MB, respectively.

In Dunnigton, the L2 cache configuration will look like 3 x 3 MB, that is, its total size will be 9 MB.

Both processors are focused on the multiprocessor server segment, as indicated by the support for FB-DIMM memory.
