OmniVision OV2650 – 2MP Stabilized Image Sensor for Embedded Cameras
OmniVision Technologies has created the OV2650 image sensor, which the manufacturer considers to be the third generation of the CameraChip family of products that use OmniPixel3 technology. Sensor resolution – 2 Mp.
The novelty is intended for use in digital cameras embedded in, for example, cell phones, PDAs, toys and PC peripherals. The compact size of the product (the optical format of the matrix is 1/5 “) allows the sensor to be positioned as a direct replacement for modern embedded cameras with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels and VGA.
According to the manufacturer, the new sensor is suitable for shooting in low light conditions, as it has best-in-class sensitivity and low noise. In addition, an important feature of the OV2650 is the presence of the image stabilization function. Interestingly, it turns on automatically as soon as the sensor detects the slightest movement of the device with a built-in camera. For communication with the processor, the sensor is equipped with a high-speed mobile industry processor interface (MIPI). The need for a high-speed interface is explained by the increased data flow associated with the increased resolution. However, devices with processors that do not support MIPI will not be left out – the OV2650 has a built-in image processor that generates a compressed JPEG file. Another important feature of the OV2650 is its high dynamic range (HDR), which is especially demanded when working in video mode.
