MSI launches Intel X48 Express motherboard series

Micro-Star International (MSI) Announces Two X48 Series Motherboards – X48 Platinum (Top Picture) and X48C Platinum (Bottom Picture).

New items are built on the basis of a set of system logic Intel X48 Express. This enables them to support Intel’s new 45nm processors (including Quad-Core Yorkfield models with 1600MHz FSB), DDR3 memory (up to DDR3-1600) and XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles, X48 Platinum only). The manufacturer notes that the products are aimed at enthusiasts interested in maximum PC performance.

The power system used in the new boards is built on a dual-channel pulse-width modulation (Dual-Channel PWM). Such a solution, according to the manufacturer, contributes to an increase in energy efficiency.

An important feature of the boards is the use of proprietary Circu-Pipe cooling technology, which has high efficiency. In the future, the series should be supplemented by a model designed for water cooling. In addition, MSI X48 series motherboards have other advantages, for example, they use reliable solid capacitors in their design.

Both boards are designed for Intel Core 2 Extreme / Quad / Duo Processors FSB 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz. Their configuration includes eSATA2 controllers with Matrix RAID and Port Multiplier support, Gigabit Ethernet adapters (the X48 Platinum has two such adapters). One of the main differences between the X48 Platinum and X48C Platinum models is the number of PCI Express slots and can be clearly seen in the pictures: the first board has four PCI Express x16 slots (PCIe 2.0), two of which operate in x4 mode, which provides support for ATI CrossFire X 2.
