Apple patents double-sided trackpad
Apple has developed technology to create an iPhone half the size of its current model. The company’s application to the US Patent Office describes a “double-sided trackpad” – a plastic transparent cover that is touch sensitive (and supports multitouch) on each side.
Such a node can be connected to a miniature phone, while its functionality will change depending on the position – open or closed: if in the closed position it replaces the main touchscreen, then in the open position it can be used for dialing a number, scrolling, etc.

The second application is in laptops, where such a cover can act as a touchscreen in the closed position and as a regular trackpad in the open position.
