Micron Technology launches large-format image sensor for automotive systems
Micron Technology has unveiled a new image sensor for automotive systems that claims to help the driver get more information about what is happening in front and behind the car. The manufacturer classifies the sensor as a “scene perception” device – they capture information and transmit it in real time to the vehicle’s on-board system to provide the driver with the information necessary for making decisions.
Product, numbered MT9V023, is a CMOS product with 1/3-inch optical format and a resolution of 752 x 480 pixels (wide-VGA). Like other Micron devices in this class, the MT9V023 features increased sensitivity in the so-called near infrared (NIR) range and the use of a TrueSNAP shutter, which allows capturing up to 60 frames per second at full resolution. In addition, according to the manufacturer, the sensor is one of the most compact devices of its kind – it comes in a BGA package with dimensions of only 9 x 9 mm.
Other features of the sensor:
- Extended operating temperature range – from -40 ° to + 105 ° C;
- Fast context switching enabled by a second set of registers – two applications can use the sensor in parallel: for example, smart headlight control system and lane departure warning system;
