PC makers tell source about Intel’s plans to get rid of single-core processors for desktop systems. According to the published data, the first step on this path will be the release in the first quarter of next year of a series of entry-level dual-core Celeron processors. In addition, two 45nm processors will join the E4000 family in the first quarter.

The first processor of the Celeron E1000 family will receive the designation E1200. It will have a frequency of cores (made on the basis of Conroe) 1.6 GHz, FSB – 800 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. Wholesale price will be $ 53. These processors will use the 65nm process technology, while the two E4000 series products mentioned above will be manufactured at 45nm.

The E4700 will be clocked at 2.6GHz with 800MHz FSB and 2MB L2 cache. The wholesale price of these processors will be $ 133 apiece. The number of the second model has not yet been named, but it is credited with support for FSB 1066 MHz and the presence of 3 MB of L2 cache.

Industry sources point out that many PC builders have already begun emptying stocks of aging single-core processors to avoid overstocking.
