Pioneer knows how to transmit HDMI, USB, RS-232C and analog audio signals up to 300m over a single cable
As you know, the maximum length of an HDMI cable is about 10 m. In cases where transmission over a greater distance is necessary, additional measures have to be taken. For example, Gennum’s solution enables HDMI signals up to 100 meters.
Even longer range for a Pioneer-designed product. It allows bidirectional transmission of HDMI, DVI, USB, RS-232C and analog audio signals over a single fiber optic cable. Maximum distance cable length is 300m. According to the source, the development was demonstrated at the CEATEC JAPAN 2021 exhibition.
During the demonstration, video signals were transmitted from the computer to the display equipped with a touch panel, and the signals from the touch panel (USB) were transferred back to the computer.
A converter equipped with USB, analog audio, RS-232C and HDMI / DVI connectors is used to transmit signals over a fiber-optic line. The light source is an infrared laser, and glass fiber is used as a transmission medium. The analog audio signal is digitized before transmission. Information exchange is carried out according to a specially developed protocol.
The price and timing of the product’s release to the market has not yet been announced, but the company foresees significant demand, both in the Japanese market and beyond, the source claims.
