Freescale Introduces 12 ColdFire Microprocessors for Linux Devices
Continuing to expand its microprocessor portfolio, Freescale Semiconductor has added the ColdFire MCF5445x family for high performance, low power Linux applications. These microprocessors have a performance level of 410 Dhrystone MIPS (DMIPS) with a power consumption of 380 mW.
The Freescale MCF5445x family includes 12 microprocessors with a rich set of peripheral blocks. Specifically, the MCF5445x configuration includes 10/100 Ethernet, USB On-The-Go (OTG), ATA and PCI adapters. In addition, these instruments are equipped with built-in memory controllers that support protected memory. As you know, a multitasking OS (such as Linux OS) prevents other programs from accessing such memory using hardware protection mechanisms implemented in the processor. This increases the stability of the work and allows, if one program fails, to continue the execution of others.
