Freescale Targets Storage Market With New PowerQUICC Processor Family

Storage and printer manufacturers for the consumer, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMB) markets can now choose Freescale Semiconductor’s high-performance PowerQUICC II Pro processors using the Power architecture.

The new family is characterized by high performance and high integration, power management and data protection features, Freescale says. The processors have built-in support for SATA, PCI Express, USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, implemented hardware acceleration of encryption and integrity control functions demanded in data warehouses. The processors are equipped with DDR2 memory controllers, and the maximum core clock speed (e300) is 400, 533 or 667 MHz, depending on the modification.

MPC837xE line is focused on the SMB market. It supports RAID 5 and is designed for use in network attached storage (NAS). These products can also form the basis of other products for SMB – access points, gateways, printers and MFPs.

MPC8314E and MPC8315E lines target the SOHO market. They support RAID 0-1, can be used as the backbone of multimedia servers, network drives, gateways, 802 access points.11n and industrial automation control units.

Preview samples of the MPC8314E, MPC8315E and MPC837xE are now available, with production slated to begin production in Q2 2021. The approximate wholesale price is set at 17, 19 and 28-37 (depending on modification) dollars, respectively.
