One of the pioneers of the home PC market, Hitachi is leaving

At one time, Hitachi was one of the first companies to promote the concept of home computers. The first PC model from this manufacturer entered the market back in 1978.

This week, a Hitachi spokesman announced that due to low demand for the company’s Prius-branded products, a decision was made to abandon the development of new models (the last such update took place about a year ago).

Hitachi has recently focused on the Japanese market, where it ranked 8th in terms of market share last year, selling 580,000 complete computers. It was inferior not only to world leaders like HP, Lenovo or Dell, but to other competitors, including NEC, Fujitsu.

The corporation has a wide range of products, from nuclear reactors to dishwashers.

The division that was engaged in the production of ready-made PCs will be reoriented to produce products for television and radio broadcasting, whose demands are growing every day.

Server manufacturing will also remain among Hitachi’s business lines.
