What to expect from the GeForce 8800 GT? Benchmarks in 3DMark06 vs. 8800 Ultra
A little more than two weeks are left before NVIDIA officially announces the release of GeForce 8800 GT video cards based on the new 65nm G92 core.
Naturally, the partners of the Californian company already have the first samples of such video cards. One of the accelerators, equipped with 512 MB of memory with a 256-bit bus, fell into the hands of the journalists of the Expreview website, who were quick to conduct a small test in 3DMark06.
The test system looked like this:
- Intel Q6600 processor overclocked to 3600 MHz (400 MHz x 9)
- NVIDIA 650i Ultra based motherboard
- DDR2-800 memory with 5-5-5-15 timings
- OS: Windows XP SP2
- Driver: NVIDIA ForceWare 167.26
Tests were carried out at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 using the settings shown in the figures below:
The flagship video card in the NVIDIA line, the 8800 Ultra, was chosen as a rival for the GeForce 8800 GT. The newcomer did not disappoint – in the overall standings, she lost to a card that will cost more than twice as much, less than 20% – 9648 points against 11611.
Result in SM 2.0 for the newbie was 3982 points against 4643 points for the older model, and in HDR / SM 3.0 accelerators showed the result of 3343 and 4391 points, respectively.
Well, even from a single test, we can say that at a price not exceeding $ 250, the GeForce 8800 GT can become a favorite in terms of performance and price. It remains to wait for the release of such cards to the market.
