Micron Technology made the smallest 1Gb DDR2 memory chip

Micron Technology
announced today that the delivery of trial samples of a new
DDR2 memory, which have a density of 1 Gbit. This density was
achieved by Micron earlier, the new chips feature a new 68nm DRAM manufacturing process.

New manufacturing process combined with proprietary Micron 6F technology?
allowed to create the smallest 1 Gbit DDR2 memory chips –
core area is only 56 sq.mm. Start Bulk
the company intends to produce 68nm memory early next year. After
DDR2 memory using new technology Micron will start
manufacture of DDR3 and other DRAM products
low power consumption. This will happen closer to the second half of the next
of the year.

The new memory will be widely used in servers, mobile terminals and
other applications in which the minimum size along with the higher
speed and low power consumption – critical requirements. New
68nm DDR3 memory like
expected to be able to operate at 1600 Mbps, the 68nm process is also
will reduce memory power consumption by about 20%.
