ViXS Systems has announced the release of the XCode 3290 single-chip system, which performs the functions of an MPEG4 AVC encoder, decoder and transcoder (MPEG4 Part 10 / H.264).
The company says XCode 3290 allows developers and consumer electronics manufacturers to add AVC support to their products at no significant cost.
The company names set-top boxes (STBs), video recorders (DVRs), high-definition television successors, Blu-Ray / HD DVD recorders, multimedia servers and network-attached storage (NAS) among the most typical examples of XCode 3290 applications. XCode 3290’s multi-core framework allows for complex digital recording and networking functionality without the need for additional processors.
