Avago Technologies Announces Industry’s First 8 Gbps Fiber Channel (SFP) Transceiver. The product received the designation AFBR-57D5APZ. It offers double the bandwidth of previous generation Fiber Channel SFP transceivers and is compliant with SFP specifications+. The novelty is designed for use in SAN switches, storage arrays, adapters and tape drives.

The Avago AFBR-57D5APZ transceiver meets the requirements of the FC-PI-4 standard and supports data transmission over fiber optic lines at speeds from 2.125 to 8.5 Gbps, without requiring an external signal to select the baud rate. For diagnostics and monitoring, it provides information on temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, average output power and received signal power. The device has a digital diagnostic interface.

According to the company, AFBR-57D5APZ provides exchange over a line up to 150 meters long at a speed of 8.5 Gbps; along a line up to 300 m long – 4.25 Gbps; up to 500 m – 2.125 Gbps.

AFBR-57D5APZ deliveries have already begun. The wholesale price of the product does not exceed $ 100 per piece.
